Aug 13, 2009

Women from Logar were trained on election procedures, rights and responsibilities.

One-day training was arranged by provincial Women Affairs Department in Pol-e Alam, the capital of Logar.

„We focused on all parts and phases of the election procedures and electoral law,“ Najeeba Sayed, Head of the department, said.

„Especially, we have been discussing values and importance of participation in the elections and importance of selecting the right person who will lead our country. I think the elections will play key role in the future of Afghanistan”, she said.

The event was supported by Czech PRT in Logar as part of its support to women´s rights. Two female trainers and provincial officials were among the speakers.

„The training was very successful, and most of the  participants expressed interest in some kind of follow-up,“ Mrs. Najeeba said. Presidential elections will take place on 20th of August across the country.

Besides this event, Czech PRT has supported other projects for Logar women. Distribution of hygienic and food items for widows, celebration of Women´s and Mothers days,  and reports about Logar women in local radios were among them.
