Jun 24, 2009

24 June, 2009 Pol-e Alam, Logar, Afghanistan – New technical library, including specialized publications in Dari and English, was donated to provincial agriculture department.

For more than 80 percent inhabitants of  Logar, agriculture is the main source of livelihood. Therefore Czech PRT, assisting in the province since March 2008, supports agriculture as one of its priorities.

Previous projects in this area had focused on trainings, supplies of high-quality seeds and cold storage constructions. One of the main goals is to provide local farmers with more information and education.

As we closely cooperate with local governmental officials, a library and one computer were donated to the provincial department for agriculture. „This library will serve to our employees, students and people who are interested in agriculture. These materials will help us during trainings and further education for farmers,“ Head of Department said.,

„264 publications were selected with focus on areas, in which people in Logar are specialized. Among those are apiculture, fruit, vegetables and seeds growing,“ Pavel Burian from Czech PRT said.

Czech PRT, consisting of nine civilian experts and 275 soldiers, has been assisting people of Logar since March 2008. Support of health system, infrastructure, security, agriculture, irrigation and independent journalism are also among its priorities. Its annual budget is 4,5 mil USD.
