10 uplift projects announced in Logar

Sep 29, 2009

The Czech Republic-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Logar province launches ten new development projects.

All projects were prepared based on proposals from provincial government, and after numerous discussions and thorough consultations. Areas of security, education, agriculture and infrastructure will be improved during the works.

Construction of checkpoint for Afghan National Police in Azra district will help to ensure security on the road to Nangarhar province. Also policemen in Muhammad Agha district will have better conditions for securing the area of Tangi Waghjan after their small observation point will go through reconstruction.

In Pol-e Alam, security wall will be constructed at the ANP headquarters. Another project is focused on Afghan National Army base, which will go through renovation as well. And in Kolangar, a new pedestrian bridge will uplift the infrastructure.

Education system in Logar will be improved by 16 new classrooms of Hamid Karzai primary school in Darvish, Pol-e Alam district. A new 16-classroom building for high school will be constructed in Azrow village, Azra district.

Agriculture, one of the main priorities in Logar, will be supported by trainings in beekeeping and cold storage management for 125 farmers. PRT will also purchase materials and equipment for plant protection. The materials will be donated to the Provincial Ministry of Agriculture, and will be used by more than 500 Logar farmers.

Number of consultations and assessments always take place before launching a new project. According to the established procedures, construction companies had three weeks to provide PRT with their offers. During selection of the winning bids, preferences are frequently given to Logar based companies which employ local labor, so the monies invested in Logar remain in Logar and contribute to the development of provincial economy.
